Ultrasound

Ultrasound is a great tool to get a non-invasive 3D assessment of what is going on inside either the chest or the abdomen. We offer ultrasound to perform procedures like cystocentesis (collecting a urine sample from a bladder with a sterile needle) or to check for obvious masses or fluid in a body cavity, etc. We also offer more detailed, complete assessments of the entire abdomen done by local mobile veterinarians specially trained in ultrasound techniques, where the images are sent to a board-certified radiologist for interpretation.

Dogs and cats typically tolerate the procedure well. The bodily area to be examined has to be shaved to get the best quality images. Due to positioning and/or the patient’s ability to lay still on their back for the exam, sometimes a mild sedation is required.
